Coats and Insulation

What do you think?

We tried this out today, using 3 pots of ice.

One pot of ice had nothing around it.

One pot of ice was covered in cotton wool.  We predicted that this ice would melt first because the cotton wool would keep it warm.

One pot of ice was covered in a coat.  We predicted this might be like the ice in the cotton wool, and would melt quickly.

One pot was left uncovered.  We predicted this would melt last.

We tested this out and were amazed to see that the uncovered pot melted first (because it had no insulation to stop the warm air heating up and melting the ice).

The pot covered in cotton wool had the biggest lump of ice for longest.

We were so interested to learn that insulation (coats) keep the heat in OR OUT.
