Dancing Raisins

We had great fun doing this science experiment!

First, we had a glass of tap water and a handful of raisins. We had to guess what would happen to the raisins when we put them into the water. Would they sink? Would they float? We discovered that they sink to the bottom of the glass and sit there because they are more dense than the water.

Next, we had a glass with sparkling water and a handful of raisins. Again we guessed what would happen to the raisins when we put them into the glass. We watched them sink to the bottom and stay there for a second or two. Then, the raisins started to rise up to the top of the glass with the bubbles of carbon dioxide before sinking to the bottom again!  It was really cool to see the bubbles attach to the raisins and lift them up.
