Making Butter

This week we learned all about cows, milk, cream and butter. We found out that cream is taken off the top of the milk before the milk is put into cartons. We poured cream into small bottles and closed the lids tight. Then we took turns shaking the bottle while singing our churning rhyme.

 “Come Butter Come,

Come Butter Come,

Our Class Stands at the Gate,

Waiting for our Buttered Cake”.

We kept shaking our bottles until we saw a yellow solid lump. This was butter!! The white liquid that was separated was buttermilk. We carefully drained the buttermilk into a jar. Then it was time to taste our homemade butter. We spread butter on crackers and dipped them into sprinkles. YUMMY! The butter tasted so nice, so we all had a second cracker!
