The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have been reading the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle, in school. We can echo the sentences and we can also finish the sentences in the book. We count all the fruit – ONE apple, TWO pears, THREE plums, FOUR strawberries and FIVE oranges. We can list all the food he ate on Saturday and then pretend we have a stomach-ache! We use our Lámh signs to name the days of the week. We also love acting out different parts of the story.

Today, we examined the fruit the caterpillar eats. We counted out the right number of fruit for our caterpillar. We looked at the different colours of the fruit. Some of our colours were different from the book! Our plums weren’t blue! They were purple, red and even had some yellow on them!

We tasted the fruit too. We guessed what the fruit would look like inside and then watched teacher cut them in half. We each picked a bit and tasted it. We decided if we liked it or not. Our strawberries were a little bitter. We didn’t really like them. Our oranges were sweet and we loved them. Our plums were a little bitter too but our pears were sweet.
