We had a wonderful beach safari day.
We began the day learning about what we might see on the beach (a big Thank You to Noirín from Explorers Education who helped teacher with some great teaching resources). We were especially delighted when we heard how to tell whether a crab is a boy or a girl (we found a boy crab on the beach!)
We enjoyed our walk to the beach, looking at solar panels and car licence plates.
On the beach we had various challenges. We began with some free play time with our buckets and spades, where we make castles, dug holes and collected shells and stones. Then we had an art/sculpture making challenge in pairs. That was fun.
Our class split in two:- the "fishermen" (who had to find and identify seaweeds and sea creatures) and the "pirates" who had to find and collect "treasure" (beach litter) and hide in the grass dunes from approaching pirates!
We finished off with a long running race on the beach.
On the way home we chatted with a gardener who was planting potatoes. He uses seaweed to fertilise the potatoes. That was very interesting.
We found the walk home quite long, but overall we had the BEST DAY EVER on our beach safari today.
