We have been looking at things that float and sink, and rubbish that floats or sinks.
We know that a ball of marla will sink but that a shell will float, even though it is heavy, if it is placed facing upwards.
We had a challenge today.
We were given one strip of marla (plasticine) for every two students.
First of all we had to make this marla into a shape that floated.
Then we competed to see how many passengers we could put into the boat before the boat sank.
We recorded our efforts on a chart.
Now we have a better understanding of how boats float. (We need this understanding for our upcoming "Make a Boat STEAM Challenge".
