Ms. McLoughlin's and Ms. Crotty's/Ms. Needham's second classes and Ms. Gaffney's class were invited to take part in the ATU Tree Bioblitz this morning.
It was an absolutely wonderful experience.
Thanks to Dr. Katie O'Dwyer for organising the day, and to the wonderful volunteers. We learned so much.
Back in the classroom we made some lovely leaf rubbings. We are also going to try floating our acorns. We learned that the acorns that float can't be planted but the acorns that sink can be planted and should grow into new oak trees. We are going to try this.
October 26th: After a fortnight soaking in water, we planted the one sinking conker and the handful of sinking acorns. We threw away the conkers and acorns that floated.
We will look after them well, and we hope they will grow into new trees for us.
