Mouldy Bread

10-June-26
Mouldy Bread

We are watching a slice of bread as it turns mouldy.

We started this on Wednesday, 3rd June. We will be looking at the mould under the microscope and seeing how much the mould spreads as time goes on.

Teacher touched one side of the bread with her nice clean hand and the other side with her very dirty fingers.

Do you think this will make a difference? We will see....

By Wednesday, 10th June there was a little mould on the side of the bread touched with a clean hand, and lots and lots of mould on the side touched with dirty fingers. All sorts of colours (black, green, blue, red, yellow, brown, white) and all sorts of spots.

We have a grid that we used to count how much mould is there. Today 6 squares on the clean side and 20 on the dirty side had some mould in them.

We will see what happens next week. We really enjoyed looking at the bread and at the mould through our microscope.

Monday, 15th June. Lots and lots of blue mold on both sides of the bread. Very interesting but YUK!

Friday, 19th June. Mould everywhere! Time to use the microscope again and then safely dispose of the bread (still inside the sealed bag) in the bin!
