We are learning lots about China. We tried picking up marshmallows with chopsticks.
This is quite a difficult skill. We are amazed that Chinese children eat with chopsticks all the time.
We also saw a house coat and a Chinese hat that the children in China might wear!
Thanks to Alex for bringing us Chinese money.
We looked at Chinese masks, saw a real Chinese flag, a good luck pendant and charts for students showing Chinese numbers, food, countries etc. It is so interesting to be learning about China. We are hoping to learn lots about other countries too!
We are really enjoying hearing about the Chinese New Year (25th January this year, Year of the Rat).
We know the story of the Willow Pattern, we have seen a willow pattern plate and we have painted our own plates.
“Two birds flying high,
a Chinese vessel sailing by,
a bridge with three men sometimes more,
a willow tree hanging over,
a Chinese temple there it stands,
built upon the river sands,
an apple tree with apples on,
a crooked fence to end my song.”
Here’s an interesting story about the animals from the Chinese New Year cycle:
We are very proud of our Chinese bamboo pictures. They look like real Chinese paintings!
